My Process

PLANning & discovery

The first initial phase is all about planning, discovery, and communication. Typically, the needs of the project should also align to the needs of the business. This discovery phase involves:

  • Understanding the problem statement

  • Understanding the business goals and gather requirements from the (PM) product manager.

  • Conduct/review user research to understand user pain points which could include (field studies, interviews, surveys, etc)

  • Conduct competitor analysis

  • Complete heuristic evaluation

  • Build Personas (if needed)

  • Create task flows/user flows

  • Define navigation structure (IA) where needed

BUILD

In the next phase, I will start to brainstorm and build out the designs. During this time, I meet with the stakeholders to ask questions and obtain feedback. Depending on the scope of the project, the prototypes will either be in a wireframe format or high fidelity designs. Implementing a working prototype allows stakeholders to browse through the proposed design.

  • Brainstorming/sketches

  • Stakeholder feedback

  • Wireframes and iterate designs

  • Lo/Hi Fidelity Designs

  • Interactive Prototypes

  • Build upon design system where needed

  • QA with dev team to ensure that the designs are adequately represented

Validate

Typically, follow-up involves meeting with the stakeholders, analytics, and development. Validating and evaluating the design in order to identify areas where improvements are needed.

  • Gather feedback (usability testing, interviews, surveys)

  • Review analytics (HotJar/Google Analytics)

  • Documentation

  • Follow up with design adjustments where needed.
